Test Summary

Deficiency of Protein C Antigen results in Type I inherited or acquired defect. Protein C is a vitamin K dependent protein synthesized in liver. Coumadin and Warfarin cause an acquired deficiency as do patients with liver disease, DIC and in the immediate post-operative period. Increased levels are also found in women on oral contraceptives.
