Platelet Function Screen
Test Summary
The Platelet Function Screen measures the ability of the patient's platelets to form a hemostatic plug in vitro in the presence of multiple agonists. This test is used to screen for both inherited and acquired platelet disorders and medication effects; such as Aspirin effect or screening test for VWF disease or trait.

Preferred Specimen
Two plastic (2.7mL) completely filled 3.2% Sodium Citrate (light blue top) tubes
Minimum Volume
TWO plastic (2.7mL) completely filled 3.2% Sodium Citrate (light blue top) tubes
Instructions
Light blue top tube, completely filled. Avoid hemolysis, gently invert 10 times. Specimen must remain at room temperature and do NOT centrifuge. Care must be taken that sample if free flowing, ie not a difficult draw due to the potential to clump the platelets. If the platelets have clumped, the test will be cancelled. Testing must be completed within 4 hours of collection and dispatch should be called with draw time to allow arrangement of timely transportation.
Please order PFS assay on a separate requisition due to limited specimen stability and testing location.
