Test Summary
The fecal occult blood test is an immunochromatographic fecal occult blood test that qualitatively detects human hemoglobin from blood in fecal samples. This is a useful screening aid for detecting primarily lower gastrointestinal (G.I.) disorders that may be related to iron deficiency anemia, diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, polyps, adenomas, colorectal cancers or other G.I. lesions that can bleed. It is recommended for use by health professionals as part of routine physical examinations and in screening for colorectal cancer or other sources of lower G.I. bleeding.

"Sample 1: The first bowel movement take Insure One test card, brush kit and instructions to the bathroom. IMPORTANT!!! Flush the toilet before bowel movement. After bowel movement place the used toilet paper in one of the waste bags provided. Do not place used toilet paper in the toilet bowel. Do not flush the toilet. Lift the flap marked ""Lift here for sample 1"" on the Insure One test card to uncover the small white square marked ""Sample 1"". Using one of the blue brushes, gently brush the surface of the feces for about 5 seconds to release blood from the feces into the surrounding water. If the bowel movement is loose, stir the water around the feces. Remove the brush from the water and gently shake it once to remove excess water and any clumps of stool. Do not apply stool to the white squares. Gently dab the bristles of the brush onto one of the two small white squares on the test card marked ""Sample 1"" for about 5 seconds to transfer a sample of water to the Insure One test card. Put the used brush into the waste bag and throw it away in a wastebasket. Peel off one of the two removable barcodes from the reply form and use it to re-seal the flap marked ""Sample 1"". Refer to the diagram provided with the instructions for the correct way to position the barcode when sealing each flap on the Insure One test card. The order of the barcode is not important. Keep the card at room temperature until the second fecal specimen has been obtained.. Sample 2: A second bowel movement is sampled in order to increase the chance of detecting blood. It can be collected at any time on the same day or on the next day. Using the second blue brush, waste bag and Insure One test card sample flap marked ""Sample 2"", repeat the steps for the above collection of ""Sample 1"" use the other removeable barcode to re-seal the sample flap. Bring the specimen to a CompuNet Patient Service center to be forwarded to the laboratory or mail in the provided envelope. Do not collect samples three days before, during or after a menstrual period. Do not collect samples if there are bleeding hemorrhoids, visible blood in the urine or in the toilet bowel or bleeding cuts on hands. Do not collect specimens from toilets containing toilet bowel cleaners, salt water or water containing rust. Do not smear feces directly onto the specimen windows. "
