Test Directory

Epstein-Barr Virus, Nuclear Antigen,(EBNA), Antibody

Test Summary

Primary infection by Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) causes infectious mononucleosis, usually a self-limiting disease in children and young adults. Infection with EBV can cause lymphoproliferative disorders including tumors. EBNA is detected during convalescence and high titers persist for life. VCA-IgM positivity in the absence of EBNA suggests the patient has a recent, active infection.
