Test Summary

Diarrhea may be caused by numerous bacteria and viruses. Stool cultures look for the presence of Salmonella, Shigella, Campylobacter, and E. coli (Shiga-Toxin Producers). Other organisms, such as Vibrio or Yersinia, may also cause diarrhea and are cultured only be special request.
