Syphilis VDRL Screen with Reflex to Titer, CSF
Order Code:
SYVDRL
Test Summary
| The VDRL test is a nontreponemal (lipoidal antigen) test that can be used to aid in the diagnosis of neurosyphilis using CSF. The diagnosis of neurosyphilis involves a combination of laboratory testing (e.g., CSF cell count, protein, or CSF-VDRL) in the presence of reactive serologic test [nontreponemal (lipoidal antigen) and treponemal] results and neurologic signs and symptoms. Positive VDRL-CSF results (in the absence of blood contamination) are suggestive of neurosyphilis in a person with the appropriate signs and symptoms. |
