Test Summary
Lactic acid is the endproduct of the anaerobic metabolism of glucose. The blood lactic acid concentration is affected by its production in muscle cells and erythrocytes and its rate of metabolism in the liver. During exercise, blood lactate can increase up to ten times of normal levels.

Instructions
Specimens must be obtained without the use of a tourniquet or immediately after the tourniquet has been applied. Patients should avoid exercise of the hand or arm immediately before and during the procedure. Remove plasma from the cells within 15 minutes. Plasma may also be frozen.
