Test Summary
ALA is a precursor to uroporphyrin, coproporphyrin, and protoporphyrin. Concentrations of ALA are greatly increased in many patients with acute neurological forms of porphyria's and in some patients with chronic alcohol abuse.

Instructions
Draw morning baseline specimen. Administer 250 mcg Cortrosyn. Draw additional specimens at 15, 30 and 60 minutes. For each timed specimen submitted, each tube must be clearly marked with time drawn. Submit all tubes with one test request form.
